How are our blank floorcloths different from what you buy at art supply and craft stores?
Canvasworks’ floorcloths are made of #8 or #4 canvas. #8 weighs 18 oz. /sq. yd.; #4 is 24 oz. The floorcloth canvas carried in most stores is #12, which is 12 oz./sq. yd., so ours is significantly heavier. Each Canvasworks floorcloth has one coat of acrylic primer on the front side. This prevents the floorcloth from shrinking and provides you with a good painting surface. We do not apply multiple coats of primer as this builds the layers up and erases the texture of the canvas and leaves a smooth, almost vinyl-like feeling. Our floorcloths look and wear like heavy canvas because they are heavy canvas! You can apply paint in a variety of ways to create beautiful effects.

For painters, the difference in the weights of canvas is comparable to the difference between painting on standard office paper and thick, textured watercolor paper.
Blank floorcloths are made from heavyweight #8 and #4 cotton canvas. These floorcloths have been shrunk, primed and have a sewn hem with carefully mitered corners. Each is ready to paint and finish your way.
The two different weights [#8 (18 0z.) and #4 (24 oz.)] we carry are significantly heavier than the floorcloth canvas usually purchased at art supply stores. (For example FredrixTM canvas is only 12 oz.) Ours costs a little more than other brands, but the final floorcloth will last longer and will lie flat around the edges. If you put all that work into painting a great floorcloth design, you deserve to expect it to look its best for a long time.
