Floorcloth Kits

This 8″ X 8″ candle mat is the perfect accent for any Christmas table. The Checks with Border Fruit design comes from the early 1800s. You can see it’s big cousin, the Checks with Border Fruit Floorcloth by clicking here.

The kit includes a primed 8″ X 8″ #8 canvas mat, a template to transfer the design, and complete instructions to finish the piece. This is a simple enough kit to complete in an afternoon.

The instructions show you how to paint this in Georgian Brick, Black and Monterey White, but you could do this floorcloth in your choice of any three colors so that it coordinates with any particular room.

This Christmas Star Kit was originally featured in Early American Life Magazine in 2008 and was so well received it remains our most popular kit to date.  As we’re currently consumed with finishing up our new studio building and preparing for our big open house, we’ve chosen to re-release it as our December kit of the month. We include a detailed set of instructions for laying out the pattern and borders along with a stencil for the star and a ready to paint floorcloth. This kit includes a 20 minute instructional video which demonstrates all the steps to making this placemat as well as how to do dragging to create the wood grain look and how to cut and use stencils. It has a set of four #4 placemats which are primed on the front and polyurethaned on the back, all of the stencils needed for this project and a complete materials list.

This classic design is a floorcloth painter’s favorite. The design is supplied and instructions to transfer and paint it onto the shrunk, primed and hemmed floorcloth are included for you.  A great afternoon project to create a wonderful 2 ft. by 3 ft. entry rug!

To allow for flexibility and customization, PAINTS ARE NOT INCLUDED and should be ordered separately. This traditional pattern can be painted in whatever colors best suit it’s intended location. And until November 1, 2012 you will automatically receive for FREE our Best Paints Tutorial, describing all of the best paints and finishes to use when you paint this floorcloth.

EVERY CANVASWORKS FLOORCLOTH blank is pre-shrunk and primed before cutting. Then it’s prepared with a 1.5″ sewn hem with sewn, mitered corners. We use a special heavy duty sail makers sewing machine to make a stitched hem which is extremely durable. For floorcloths less than 7 feet wide, we use a heavyweight No. 8 canvas. This 18 oz./sq.yd. cloth has a very tight weave. Painted and sealed with the proper materials, it is extremely resilient and will last a very long time.

The original Dr. Francis Howe house wall murals signed by Rufus Porter in 1838 Westwood, Massachusetts are on display at The Rufus Porter Museum in Bridgton, Maine. Come to the Rufus Porter Museum in Bridgton, Maine on July 24th and 25th, 2013 to take this two day class where you’ll learn how to paint a  2′ X 3′ floorcloth.
